For those who wanted a report back on what we came up with: we contacted Scott Ferrett and he discouraged us from trying to program a native driver. When we told him what problems we were trying to resolve, he gave us a simple resolution to the most serious one in short order ( we needed to set BusyHandling = 2). The other issues are minor enough that it probably won’t be worth the expense of pursuing this further.
