I keep getting asked this question, so I figured I’d post it here.
Gmail will no longer allow Less Secure Apps to send emails via their web service and we would like to know if there is a way to continue using gmail

Enable Google App passwords for SMTP
An App Password gives a non-Google app permission to access Google’s SMTP server.
App Passwords can only be used with accounts that have 2-Step Verification turned on.

The biggest trap is that if you don’t have 2 step verification turned on, you don’t get access to App passwords. From a support perspective, you normally end up assisting a customer to turn on 2 step so you can create an app password.
