Clarion 12 schedule?

Hi all,

Last September I was pleasantly surprised with Softvelocity’s announcement of the planned product updates. I still have one main application (Windows) running for a number of customers. This was created in C9.1. After not renewing my subscription after C10, I haven’t received any information from Softvelocity anymore.
Does anyone know the schedule for Clarion 12?

Regard Henk

The last message I received from SV was about a C11.1 maintenance release. That was Dec 1, 2023.

Z said about a month, I usually use a LWF of 7.6, so 6.7 x 1 Month give any time now.
(LWF = Dilbert comic reference)

Murphy’s law: multiply by 2 and move to the next unit. 1 month → 2 years.

That would be a Quarter I would have thought, so 6 months

True, but we don’t use quarters, I believe it’s more than USA.

In 2011, I wrote that 64bit support should come. Let’s see what century they are planning it for.

From where I sit, I doubt that there will ever be a Clarion 12. It doesn’t appear to me that Clarion 12 is even being worked on. Same with Clarion 11.1. No updates even though the IDE stinks! No recent news about C12. No progress reports. Nothing! Softvelocity’s web site is all old news. I think that Z just makes up stuff to keep the Clarion community hopeful. It’s all bs. I’m thinking that Clarion is now a dead horse. Even Capesoft posts little to no updates to their great Clarion templates. That tells me that they have lost interest in Clarion and are moving on.

What (Softvelocity) people do actually, if they are not busy with development?
Even is there only half of developer, after so much time - it should be new versions out.

I’m pretty sure Bruce can speak for himself.

yes there seems to be regular Nettalk updates and Bruce has hinted/mentioned that there is some new product in the works. Granted the amount of time Bruce spends on ClarionLive webinars and various other support channels like Skype groups, ClarionHub and the newsgroups, it doesn’t appear to me that Capesoft have “lost interest in Clarion”.

People have been predicting Clarion’s demise for 30 years or more. I’m not sure how many of us will still be around in another 30 years but perhaps Clarion will outlive us all. Remember there are still apps written in Clarion DOS version 2 (CPD) from the late 1980’s running all these years later!

Well i can assure you of 2 (unrelated) things.

Firstly Clarion 12 is very much alive and progressing. Its a big project but theres no point getting it before its ready.

Secondly, ive been (somewhat deliberately) quiet this year because ive been working on a major new (accessory) project. Its a fairly large undertaking which was scheduled to take the whole year and should hopefully be released in rhe first quarter of next year.

I dont like to promote projects before they are ready, so I’ve not talked about it much, but I’ve left clues in most of the webinars for those regular watchers - and a few have figured it out.

Suffice to say you should save a few pennies; its something i think a lot of people will want, it’ll add major value to an app, but given the amount of work I’ll also likely be more-or-less our most expensive accessory ever. Nothing is cast in stone yet, but there’ll be some sticker shock.

Sometimes the silence you hear is the sound of hard work. I’d rather talk about ehat you can get now than what you can get at some point in the future.

I’m betting it’ll be released before C12!
