Gus is not among us anymore - Is the product dead?
I could not find a home page.

Best regards

Edvard Korsbæk

Theres this thread.

It’s dead. I am in C10 and hopefully it will transfer to the latest versions else I will just stay in C10.

In what way is it dead? Just no longer for sale and no support, no buyer to take it on from his estate and/or something else?

He passed away @RchdR

I don’t know if his estate is seeking to pass on the source code. I don’t think so and I’m sure they do not know much about it. I think Gus added just about everything he could think of and after his many years of development, it’s very useful as is without further enhancement. I know in my 20 years of using it, I have just skimmed the surface of its full capabilities and rarely needed support. It’d be too time consuming for me to remove it from my apps and I have the source if I want to extend/change anything. Between HTs, 95% of Capesoft products, Chilkat and Noyantis wrappers, I’m pretty well covered in my toolbox.

Weren’t there different editions? One with source and another black box? Maybe he changed that, but I thought I remembered that there was more than one tier at one time or another.

Changed, thankfully.

Yes, shipping-as-source is the key here. As long as you have the source it can be moved forward. It might not get much in the way of updates, but good code remains good code.

A couple years ago i helped get a project from C55 to C11. It had a few hundred PowerBrowses in it. Found the source and got it running fine.

My goal is to get all our stuff DLL-free by the time I retire. Ive been replacing the DLLs for a while now, and really only 2 (major ones) to go.

Im sure Gus’s stuff will live forever and just keep trucking along. A testament to his skill and creativity.

Yes, thats a problem with one man brands. My itention is to copy al my 3party stuf to C12, and then try put them into the registry. With the tools where i have a licence i will use a C12 setup. AND NO, I do not have stolen goods, but some i dont have upgrade licences for.

When are you planning to retire?

Theres a few things to do yet Richard.
Plus i dont think retirement for us is like it was for my dad. He left work one day and never went back. For us its more likely to be a scaling back on hours over a period of years.

I have been scaling back myself - Seems like it works.

The plan is much the same here.
