Embed point for eip to calcuate total and save it to a file

Hope someone can help. I have browse with eip . The record contains besides other fields a quantity and price field. I want to calculate the total field which is part of the file fields once the price field has been accepted.

is the total field part of the file that is used in that eip or just a local variable?
