Looking for Clarion practice projects

Hi all,

I’m new to Clarion, learning very slowly with the intention of helping my dad in his software development.
I’ve completed the tutorials from Don Edwards, I’ve read Bruce Johnson’s guide to ABC and watched his CIDC presentations (all very helpful), but I’m still feeling very under-prepared. When I was learning other languages like Python and Javascript, the resources online were extensive and there were so many tutorials that take you through making a project, which I found was the best way to learn.

My question is, does anyone have a set of tutorials or a project walk-through suitable for a new learner? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Hi Stacey,

Welcome to the clarion hub.

I’m unsure of how many resources/tutorials are out there. Clarion compared to other languages is quite niche and obviously although at a guess a few thousand developers exist, resources can be hard to come by.

With regards to tutorials, there was a series a short while back on Clarion Live where John, Bruce, Mike and Andy took the Student example and refactored it. I would say the episodes are worth a watch, although be prepared as there are 9 of them.

I’ll list the links below as currently there are no Playlists on the Clarion Live YouTube Channel, hint hint @John_Hickey

A book that might be useful with regards to ABC, if you don’t have it, was written by Russ Eggen. Russ passed away a few years back, but the book has been kindly open sourced, and can be found here

YouTube links to the ClarionLive! Boldly Going Where No One Has Gone Before - Rewriting A Clarion Example App are here.

Clarion also comes with some learning resources. In addition to the installer for Clarion itself there is one called Clarion11-Examples and Lessons_installer. I only have the lessons on my machine at the moment, and I can’t remember what the lessons look like. There is also one of the PDF docs called Learning Clarion, which may guide you through the tutorials. Not recommending any of that stuff, just saying it’s there.
