OT: Zinstall, PCmover or something else

I need to move the software already installed on one computer, a lot of it too, to a newer box but can’t simply clone the HD.

If anyone has a preferred software for this please let me know.

THANKS!

Check out SysPrep. Its a Windows tools where admins make a workstation box, with all the software installed on it, before its then used as a Master copy to deploy to the fleet of workstations in a typical corporate environment.

I’ve not done anything on Sysprep yet, but it should do what you want to do.

I’ll take a look… thanks!

Last time I did this was about 4 years ago to move from a Mac Parallels VM to a physical PC. I used PCMover, I don’t remember having any major problem.

Will you require any shortcuts to be operational on your computer?

You have an excellent memory, my friend! You will always be #1 in my book!!! :face_with_peeking_eye:

This is for a client and, yeah, they want the user moved, including software and settings, to a new computer. Normally I’d mount the old HD in the new machine long enough to get this handled - in many cases just a direct clone and reboot. Yeah, sometime drivers are mismatched but over the years Windows upgrades have been improved to a point where it takes care of the mismatch.

In this case I can’t since the new computer has support so absolutely NOTHING can be mounted within the case. No SATA support and, worse, no power available. So this time I have to have both machines running and connected through the network.

Needless to say the “migration” in this instance is not going to be speedy!

Hi, ZInstall worked fine perfect for my client’s PCs and Server.

Decided to go with PCmover but I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get any idea whether it works.

I arrived at the site, unboxed their new computer and it’s DOA! Hopefully the replacement for the replacement works tomorrow!!!
